Hello World!

Here I am...I'm finally blogging. It's quite exciting because this means I can communicate with all of you in real time. You'll be the first to hear about new things I'm up to, concerts, new songs I'm writing and anything else interesting that's happening in my life. I want to hear about you too! So I hope you will write back with comments and feel free to share whatever is on your mind.

So where do I begin....

Well, it's been a great week so far. I wrote a new song with my talented friend Yael Meyer. It's called Simple things and it's all about appreciating the little things in life we love so much. To give you a feel for it, here is a verse:

"Lady bugs, red dandelions, old cartoons, waffle irons, good shampoo and cuddling with you.
Some people want a million dollars, others want to fly to the moon...
but it's the simple things that I love love love "

What are some of your favorite simple things about life? I'd love to know. Maybe I'll even feel inspired to write a song about it :)

I'm looking forward to working with Matthew Puckett later today and finishing a few songs we've started. He is one very talented friend/co-writer/producer of mine. When I write with Matthew I'm smiling ear to ear and I'm reminded that writing music is my very favorite thing to do. Matthew and I wrote many songs together i.e Room to Breathe, Fall for You, Happy You're Gone, Coming Home, Listen and many more. If you haven't heard them all visit www.myspace.com/cathyheller as well s my site www.cathyhellermusic.com. Today we're finishing a song called You Color the way, which is all about that certain person who comes into your life and suddenly the whole world is in full color.

I'm looking forward to doing a show a week from Sunday at Storyopolis. This will be a preview for a workshop I'll be doing there called "Songs and Tools for a Happy life". Through games and songs kids will learn to use their senses and felt sens awarness to experience life to the fullest and feel peaceful throughout the day. I'm doing a few of these workshops around town and I also offer private sessions to kids and adults. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to learn more.

Something else cool from my week was my Tuesday night class at MARC. the Mindfulness Awareness Research Center at UCLA, which I've so enjoy. This class was all about JOY and we learned some fascinating things. Did you know that scientists have been researching joy and they can actually tell us what 3 things make people the happiest? You ready for this? When people have the following three things they are proven to feel joyful:

A sense of purpose and meaning in life
A direction in where you're headed
An ability to go beyond ourselves and give to others as well as being grateful for what we have

I wasn't surprised to hear that because it's pretty clear to me that is what brings me happiness, but I think it's so neat that they can actually see in brain scans that it's actually proven to make us happier people. Not only that but those things improve our immune system function, lower our stress and give our lives greater ease.

I have to get back to song-writing, but it was so nice to share with all of you. I hope you'll stop by often, so we can stay in touch. It means a lot to me that you choose to spend any of your time listening to my music and reading this blog. I know you're time is valuable and I don't take it for granted. I hope the things I say can add a little goodness to your day, then I've done what I hoped to.

xoxo,

cathy
